If one thing is for sure, it is that you can only go so long before Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pops back up in the news. The busiest man in Hollywood is getting ready for his animated Disney film, Moana, to hit theaters, before 2017 sees the release of Fast 8, Baywatch, and Jumanji. But it’s not like 2016 was a down year, as the star was recently named the highest paid actor in Hollywood. Johnson shows no signs of slowing down, as after the previously mentioned 2017 films, the actor has Shane Black’s Doc Savage, a turn as Black Adam in Shazam!, and a third season of HBO’s Ballers to film.
On top of all that, Johnson has recently signed on to produce a scripted wrestling series based on his life for Fox. Now, Johnson has joined an exclusive list that includes George Clooney, Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Depp, Bradley Cooper, and more talented Hollywood actors. And while no, it is not due to an Oscar nomination, Johnson still has a new feather to add to his cap.
PEOPLE Magazine has announced that Dwayne Johnson has been tapped as 2016’s Sexiest Man Alive! So what did Johnson say when he was told about his most recent accolade? “I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then what went through my mind was just how cool and exciting it is,” the actor told PEOPLE, before adding, “And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all, this is it.”
Despite having a physique that many would kill for, Johnson did have to get comfortable living in his own skin, stating it “took a lot of time.” He added of his adolescence in Hawaii, “I was doing a lot of things that I shouldn’t have. I was getting arrested multiple times, but at the same time, always very respectful to my teachers and elders. I was unsure of who I was and who I wanted to be.”
The Hollywood megastar insists that it is his familial relationships that help him remain down to earth. “I’ve made big sweeping changes in my career over the years, which have served me nicely,” says Johnson. “But I feel that the big sweeping changes that happened in my life, in my relationships, of being a dad, of being a partner, and the things that I was and the things that I am, has really lent itself to a confidence.”
The actor was also asked what he thinks it is about him that his fans find so sexy, to which he replied, “Ah, a sense of humor. And I think probably just not trying to be sexy and just being cool and confident in your movies. I think with a lot of my fans, I’ve gotten to a very, very cool place where there’s a direct line between the man they know off-screen and the man they see on-screen.”
Johnson certainly stays well connected with his fan base, often sharing videos on Instagram, while remaining active on Facebook and Twitter as well. Whether it is actually the star’s sense of humor that fans find sexy, well, it probably does not hurt. What is clear, though, is that Johnson continues to accumulate accomplishments, while going out of his way to remain in touch with his endearing fans.
