Ice Cube’s film production company, Cube Vision, has inked a partnership with Kelvin Wu’s Hong Kong-based media investment company AID Partners, the latter announced today, making AID a significant shareholder and strategic adviser to Cube Vision.

As part of the deal, AID will fully finance targeted projects Cube Vision has in development, with Ice Cube and Jeffrey Kwatinetz remaining as Cube Vision’s majority shareholders, maintaining complete creative control of the company.

In addition, AID Partners has the option to expand its investment in Cube Vision, as well as its relationship with the production company.

“My singular goal with Cube Vision is to continue to build a creative company that puts content quality and talent at the heart of every decision,” Ice Cube said in a press statement. “Kelvin’s partnership and new friendship with me and Jeff allow us to do just that. We have a meaningful global financing partner who understands and appreciates how the right funding and creative autonomy will empower us to build a platform to grow together. What is especially exciting to me are the business opportunities in Asia to expand as we realize more success.”

“The Cube Vision investment is an ideal platform for AID Partners to realize our belief and strategy in building a better lifestyle by bridging media and entertainment in different global territories,” Kelvin Wu said. “Ice Cube is an extraordinary multi-hyphenate talent who also happens to have an eye for identifying commercially viable and culturally expansive source material. Coupled with Jeff’s strong business and creative acumen, the two are primed to take Cube Vision to the next level and we look forward to this long term, lucrative partnership.”

AID Partners also has investments in other entertainment companies, most notably Legendary Pictures, the production and financing company behind titles like “Straight Outta Compton” (also a Cube Vision production), “Jurassic World,” “Interstellar,” “Pacific Rim” and much more.

Ziffren Brittenham and Eisner Jaffe negotiated the deal on behalf of Ice Cube and Cube Vision.

Cube Vision is currently developing “Ride Along 3,” a hip-hop inspired Oliver Twist remake, and an untitled David O. Russell project. The company also has an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV and Fox 21 TV Studios which was inked last fall.
