New Line to Bring Misty Copeland’s Life Story To Big Screen

EXCLUSIVE: New Line has acquired Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina, and has set Remember the Titans scribe Gregory Allen Howard to adapt the biography of Misty Copeland. She made history by becoming the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. The bestselling book, and the movie, will chronicle humble beginnings and effort to reach that pinnacle. Offspring Entertainment’s Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will produce with Philip Sandhaus.

Though best known for scripting the uplifting gridiron integration tale, Howard is a life-long dance aficionado who has over the years watched some of the great ballet companies. He takes this assignment as his Harriet Tubman feature script Harriet moves toward a January production start with Seith Mann attached to direct for New Balloon/MACRO. Howard is also executive producing and prepping his Harlem-based pilot, The Zone, which centers on the lives Harlem teenagers and their families. Howard is repped by WME and The Gotham Group.
