DESCRIPTION: On Friday, Oct. 14, 6:30 pm, Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series cordially invites you to our awards ceremony honoring pioneering media leader Cathy Hughes, the founder of Radio One and TV ONE. Join us for an evening of entertainment and fun. Award-winning actress Kim Coles will serve as our Mistress of Ceremonies and perform a special tribute. For ticket information call: 212.865.2982. Tickets: $35 (2 tickets for $50 by 10/7/16).

Ms. Hughes will be presented with the Reel Sisters Hattie McDaniel Award (formerly known as our Pioneer Award). Reel Sisters renamed the award to honor pioneers who opened the doors for Black women and other women of color in film, media and television. Hattie was the first African-American woman to receive an Oscar — overcoming the challenges facing Black actors in Hollywood where there were few acting jobs available to them and limited roles.
