A day after news that the Nina Simone film she stars was picked up by RLJ Entertainment for release in December, Zoe Saldana has picked up a new project; she will star in an adaptation of the graphic novel, “I Kill Giants,” by Joe Kelly, which will be produced by Chris Columbus, and will be directed by Anders Walter (his feature film debut).

Saldana will co-star with Madison Wolfe in a story about a young misfit girl (played by Wolfe) battling both real and imaginary monsters in her life. Saldana is attached to play the psychologist at the school the girl attends, said to be a key role, as she helps little Barbara face both internal and external threats, as the pair forms a bond.

The creator of the graphic novel, Joe Kelly, is adapting it to screenplay format.

Christopher Columbus is producing through his 1492 Pictures/Ocean Blue Entertainment, along with Justin Nappi of Treehouse Pictures, Kim Magnusson and Man of Action Entertainment and XYZ Films.

The project is currently being shopped at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Saldana is currently filming “Star Trek Beyond” which is due out next year. After that, she’s booked for 3 “Avatar” sequels.
