Note: When I tried to look up the name Brer Soul, I didn’t find a person but the name of an album by Melvin Van Peebles. I also found a reference to it in a old Jet Magazine, again referring to Brer Soul as an album. I am also having trouble identifying other people but will watch the film again to see if that helps. It probably wont because most of the people don’t have character listings.

UPDATE: The full cast list (minus character names) is listed at the end of the film and neither Melvin Van Peeples or Brer Soul appear as cast members, but TCM lists Brer Soul as being Sweetback, so that makes sense. TCM also lists the full cast (unlike IMDB) and Max Van Peebles’ name doesn’t appear. I’m not saying Max is not in the film, just that he’s not in the credits.
